Steve answered our questions! “Human Nature” is included on the soundtrack for the Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’!

“Human Nature” will be included on the soundtrack album for the Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’, which opens in the U.S. on April 24 (and in Japan on June 12). The film has garnered significant attention, with the U.S. trailer reportedly racking up over 116.2 million views within 24 hours of its release. With that in mind, we asked Steve — who actually worked with and knew Michael personally — three questions. We would love to express our gratitude to Steve for taking the time to answer our questions despite his busy schedule.
Q.”Human Nature” will be included on the soundtrack for the Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’, set for release on April 24, 2026. What are your thoughts on that? Also, do you already know how this song will be used in the film?
Steve: While I have no idea how Human Nature will be used in the film, of course I’m thrilled that it’s being included.
Q.You were one of the people who actually worked with Michael on music production. What kind of person was he? Also, what was he like during the recording of “Human Nature”?
Steve: Working with Michael was always a joy for me. Whenever we worked, even though the bar was set very high, I always felt I was there to do exactly what it was I did best. The collaborators Michael surround himself with, be they musicians, arrangers, engineers, etc…, were all there to do exactly what they did best as well. While at times he might challenge you, there was never a feeling you didn’t belong right there, right then.
Q.Please tell us about a favorite memory you have of Michael.
Steve: I feel lucky to say there are many memories. When I lived and worked at David Paich’s house, Michael lived with his family just a mile or so away. He would show up at the front door, out of the blue, and say “let’s do something!” Several times it was just the two of us and we would write something on the spot, or he’d have worked on a lyric for which he wanted to record a vocal, doing all the harmonies, backgrounds and doubles one after another without stopping. I know that engineers Bruce Swedien, Matt Forger and Brad Sundberg, who I was most in the trenches with on Michael’s projects, know exactly what I’m talking about. There was absolutely nothing like watching Michael put a vocal down and stack it with multiple parts. I remember Bruce Swedien saying it was his favorite part of working on a Michael album. No one says that about doing vocals. None of us ever witnessed pure talent like that before or since.
